Artists
Smile Theatre has been in operation since 1972. We produce small musical theatre productions that tour to seniors in a variety of different settings. We tour to all kinds of spaces and contexts where seniors are: long term care & nursing homes, hospitals, retirement residences, senior’s condominiums, community centres, etc.
Our primary focus is to reach isolated older adults and those in care who cannot get out to regular theatre performances. This means that we sometimes perform for just a few people – or in rooms that are not designed for performances. Our productions need to be flexible to accommodate this wide variety of spaces – and our artists need to be flexible and accommodating as well – in order to reach those people who are isolated from professional cultural experiences.
Please see our Current News Page for Audition Postings.
This work is unique, and requires artists who share our commitment to the highest quality performances, have a desire to reach older adults in care, and who are willing to be creative and flexible.
Our work requires excellent performers who are generous, caring, empathetic and warm to our audiences and to their fellow artists. We expect our performers to engage with our audience in a genuine way. We also expect them to embrace our context, and be ensemble members with fellow artists, which is very important in our touring situation.
